Groups

We're hopi ng to start a Conversational Spanish Group very soon - have a word with George or any of the committee if you're interested.

Sadly, as we age, it becomes ever more difficult to retain a sense of purpose in life. At Sedgefield u3a we hope to enthuse all our members; that while retirement may present its own set of challenges there is always something new to learn and, most importantly. to enjoy and fulfil our time. Our Interest Groups are just the vehicles for this. We have several long-standing groups but are always happy to support and encourage the formation of new ones.

Groups are established when a number of members with a common interest get together to decide how they would like to organise and manage their group. Some arrange visits to interesting or beautiful gardens and/or houses, others to exhibitions in museums and galleries, while many attend theatres and concert halls to discover, share and enjoy a wide range of drama, music and interesting and informative talks. Other groups will get together for lunches in local pubs and restaurants, whilst still others read and study books or work on creative writing or photography. Many of us look forward to the bi-monthly Wine Appreciation Group meetings!

Some of our groups link with Stockton U3A and the Bridge group is a joint venture with the village Community Association.

We currently have twelve active groups but are keen to introduce more as membership grows. If you have knowledge or a skill you are willing to share, or would like to take up a new hobby, please let us know and we'll spread the word among members and try to organise an appropriate group.

To join a group, you must be a member of the u3a. We encourage prospective members to visit any or all of our groups and to attend a monthly meeting. They may visit a combination of group and monthly meetings up to three times in total, paying the appropriate fee, before deciding to join us. If you are retired, semi-retired, or are planning to retire and are wondering what to do with your time, do think about coming along and testing us out. We are a lively and friendly organisation and we offer a good range of creative, leisure and study groups. A Membership Form should be completed  and returned to the membership secretary, either by post or at the next meeting. Our annual membership fee is a mere £25 per year, which is just a little more than a very modest £2 per meeting (we don't meet in August). This fee grants members the privilege to attend monthly meetings, access a range of benefits and support from the national and regional U3As, including engaging courses and lectures, and to receive the quarterly U3A magazine.

The Membership Secretary is Susan Gregory. Click to contact by email, marking for her attention in Subject line.

Please click on any of the groups below to access their page for more information and/or dates of meetings etc.
