Our Wine Appreciation Group is not for wine snobs - it's for those people who really enjoy drinking good wine in great company

Meeting in a different member's house each time, the Wine Appreciation Groupies (or WAGs) enjoy tasting a variety of wines from around the world. The 'host' is expected to buy the wine, prepare tasting notes and provide complementary nibbles!

We cover types of grape and wine and have learnt what to look for in a good wine, how to appreciate its appearance, aroma and taste. We discuss the relative advantages of buying from wine clubs and wine plans; supermarket wines, wine merchants etc. and share information on recent discoveries and 'bargains'.

Each session, we plan to taste 4 or 5 wines and share our opinions about them, and will score each wine so that we elect a “Wine of the Month”. The current cost is £9 per meeting; this covers the cost of the wine and must be paid to the host when signing up - we don't want anyone to be out of pocket! As we meet in members’ houses, initially the size of the group is limited to about 12.
