By joining Sedgefield and District u3a you immediately become a member of the wider u3a family. With over 1000 u3as and over 400,000 members in the UK plus regional (Northumbria) and national Offices there is an immense amount of activities and events to explore and people to meet.
Originally formed in France, there are now also many international u3a groups. If there is a group where you next holiday, why not call in and visit. I'm sure they'd be as pleased to see you as we would be to welcome any of our international friends - wherever they hail from!
From this page you can access the National website with its links to learning activities such as Learning for Everyone and the National Programme, the annual National Poetry Competition, the knowledge and advice of the Subject Advisers, Research and Shared Learning projects and the u3a Radio podcasts. Please check out the u3a Friends Extra article which features the new benefits website giving you access to hundreds of offers and savings, all exclusively for u3a Friends. It highlights discounts, offers, and additional services across a range of areas such as Health and Wellbeing; shopping savings on major brands and retail discounts; Travel and Holidays; Leisure offers, like family days out, trips to the cinema and theatre; Insurance offers on car, travel and medical insurance; Access to financial advice and a legal helpline. The monthly u3a Newsletter keeps everyone in touch with what is happened around the country whether locally or nationally.
The regional Northumbria office is based in Newcastle and the team there keep us all up-to-date with what is happening in our region. On their website is a list of all the u3as in the area while the Networks page gives information about the available support groups for Committee officers or special group leaders. There is information about the quarterly meetings, held at various venues to allow as many members as possible the opportunity to attend, and events such as quizes, musical evenings and visits to museums, art galleries and other sites of special interest. With links to Newcastle University there are also options to engage in research or shared learning projects. We try to have an up-date article in each of the quarterly Northumbria area's newsletter, the Messenger, and these can be accessed here.
