This group is for those members who have a particular interest in Science and Technology and in the workings of Industry, particularly in the North East. We have been exceptionally fortunate in the range and breadth of opportunities we have had in recent years to visit such a wide variety of interesting sites.

We've visited  the Wynyard Planetarium, RAF Leeming, Hartlepool Power Station, Nissan and Ebac amongst others. Tn the year leading up to Covid we visited the BBC Studios in Newcastle, a wine bottling and retail facility, Camerons Brewery, the Primula plant, the iconic Tees Transporter Bridge (some of us even climbed to the top!), the Hitachi Rail unit, and the Tees Barrage. We saw Tim Peake's spacecraft at the Railway Museum in Shildon and most recently visited the superb NETPark on the outskirts of Sedgefield which is a world leader in hosting select Science, Technology and Engineering innovative and forward thinking businesses. The Wurlitzer Museum at Howden le Wear was another treat, especially when one of our members was invited to play one of the organs.

Our co-ordinator, Alan, organises several visits each year to local factories, breweries, sites of scientific and technology investigation and other places of particular interest.  However, many industrial and scientific sites have not yet re-opened  to visitors post Covid and although Alan has several irons in the fire, he is still waiting for word from his contacts that they are open for our business.

Dependent on the nature of the visit and the numbers signed up we either hire a coach, currently funded by a transport grant from Durham County Council,  or travel in members' cars. And we sometimes have free samples at the site and/or are given some to take home!
