Hello! And thank you for visiting us on our website - we're delighted to see you here.
We've put together lots of information about our meetings, groups and events and we hope you'll find what you're looking for. But, please do contact us if you have any questions or require further information; we'll do our very best to help.
Please note that there are many links scattered throughout this website which lead to further information, data or images that describe or illustrate an item of interest - just click on any underlined blue text.
Although probably the smallest group in the Northumbria region, we are very enthusiastic about the u3a organisation and get a great deal of enjoyment and very much fuller lives through being members. If you are new to the u3a, we do hope you'll think of joining us. We look forward to meeting you very soon.

To paraphrase W.B. Yeats - 'There are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t yet met!'
The UK u3a movement began in the 1980s with the object of bringing together people, retired or no longer in full-time employment, who wished to continue learning for fun. Each u3a has its own set of diverse Interest Groups. These may be academic, practical, frivolous or serious but they individually reflect the interests, activities and concerns of each u3a's membership.

We offer unique opportunities to meet new people, develop new skills, enjoy new experiences and to get out-and-about and make the most of our retirement. There are always so many things to do, places to go and people to meet. . .
Do think about joining us. In sharing your own skills and life experience you too will be enhancing other members' knowledge while encouraging us all to make the most of the many new things to be enjoyed as we age.

Recent investigations into the causes and effects of dementia have suggested that it is really important to maintain a healthy, lively and enquiring lifestyle - especially as age catches up with us.
But there's really no need to be sitting at home, feeling bored, lonely and disinterested in life when there's a whole new lifestyle waiting to be discovered. Live, Laugh and Learn with your local u3a. Do come along to meet us and learn what Sedgefield u3a can offer to fill your time and help to keep you happy and healthy!
The picture shows members of our Science, Technology and Industry Group's visit to the internationally renowned NetPark (North East Technology Park) situated on the outskirts of our village. Here, a select range of innovative STEM industries are supported in research and manufacture by academics from Durham University and other on-site strategic partners.
A General Meeting is held on the first Friday of each month in
The Parish Hall, Front Street, Sedgefield at 2.00 - 4.00pm
At each of these monthly meetings we have a speaker, with a wide variety of topics being covered. Some serious, some humorous, some of local interest, some of wider appeal - but invariably interesting, entertaining and/or informative. Members meet from approximately 1.30pm, have a coffee and a catch-up chat, meander around the interest group tables to see what's arranged for the near future and perhaps sign up to register an interest in an activity, a visit or to take part in a community project.
After their talk, many of our Speakers are delighted to stay and chat with members, answer any questions they may have or advise on where to gather further information on their chosen subject. Many of them have also written a book or other publications and bring along a selection to sell and sign.
Visitors are very welcome and may attend three times before we require them to become members. We ask for a donation of £3 each time; this covers temporary membership/insurance and is reimbursed through the first yearly membership subscription. Visitors may be accompanied by a carer, for whom there is no charge.
u3a is so much more that you might initially think. . . . So, please don't think twice about talking to any of the committee or to any of our members; we're very proud of the organisation and love meeting and chatting to new people and sharing knowledge and information.
